Overnight Vision Correction (Ortho-K)

Imagine enjoying clear vision all day without wearing glasses or contact lenses. Overnight Vision Correction, also known as Orthokeratology (Ortho-K), makes this possible for many people.

Ortho-K uses specially designed rigid gas permeable contact lenses that you wear while you sleep. Overnight, the lenses gently reshape the front surface of your eye (the cornea). When you remove the lenses in the morning, you can enjoy clear vision throughout the day without needing glasses or contact lenses.

Ortho-K is most suitable for people with mild to moderate short-sightedness (myopia) and can also correct many cases of astigmatism. It is also widely used to help slow the progression of myopia in children and teenagers.

To determine whether Ortho-K is right for you, your optometrist will perform a detailed assessment of your eyes, including a painless corneal topography scan. This scan creates a precise map of the surface of your cornea, allowing us to design lenses that are customised for your eyes.

Most people achieve their best vision after several nights of wear. During the first one to two weeks, your optometrist will schedule a series of follow-up appointments to monitor your progress, ensure the lenses fit correctly, and make any necessary adjustments.

The cost of Ortho-K is comparable to approximately one year’s supply of disposable soft contact lenses. With proper care, a pair of Ortho-K lenses will typically last around two years.

Ortho-K consultations and fitting are available exclusively at our Macquarie Street practice in Hobart.
