Coloured contact lenses allow you to change your look, much like a trip to the hairdresser for a new colour. The selection of coloured contacts is usually on the spectrum of natural-like eye colours, but can also be crazy designs like cat’s eyes.
Your eyes are delicate and you only have one set. That’s why Australian regulation requires that for your safety, all contact lenses including cosmetic contact lenses be prescribed under the supervision of a qualified optometrist.
If you’re a current contact lens wearer, then switching to coloured contacts may be easy. However, if you’ve never worn contact lenses before, you’ll need a fitting consultation with a Total Eyecare optometrist, a contact lens lesson and review, plus the lenses themselves.
If you’re considering coloured or cosmetic contact lenses, DON’T allow yourself to be lured by cheap, imported lenses that you might pick up at a local market or in a discount beauty store. It is illegal to supply contact lenses in Australia if you’re not an optometrist. And with good reason: mis-use of contact lenses can and have lead to irreversible blindness. It’s not worth the risk – even for one night!
